Apple has released a new version of its popular media player, QuickTime, which patches several vulnerabilities in the software. The update, version 7.6.9, is available for both Windows and Mac OS X users.

According to Apple's notes, most of the holes patched in QuickTime 7.6.9 for Windows also affect the Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) version of the software. The company advises customers to visit the Apple Online Store to purchase a QuickTime 7 Pro registration code after installation.

For those who are currently using QuickTime 6 Pro, it's important to note that installing QuickTime 7 or later will disable the QuickTime Pro functionality in prior versions of QuickTime, such as QuickTime 6. This is stated in Apple's Support document HT1222, which also lists the bugs in question and provides methods employed by Apple to address them.

The new release, version 7.6.9, improves security and is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users on Windows. Although Apple does not specify this directly, the update is also available for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard users.
